This file provides information for disk vendors on the disribution of
XDIR.
Shareware distributors and Users Groups may charge a nominal
fee, not to exceed $6.00, for copying and distributing this
program. Documentation must clearly explain the shareware
concept, the need for users to register products they use, and
the fact that the price of your disks is a copying fee only and
does not constitute payment for XDIR. The material must also diff-
erentiate between shareware and public domain software.
Any distribution of XDIR must include without alteration
only the files contained on this disk.
We encourage you to consider becoming an Approved Vendor of the
Association of Shareware Professionals (ASP). The ASP vendor program
reduces the workload for both authors and vendors, and helps give
customers confidence that reasonable standards are met in the
distribution of shareware products.
For more information on the ASP vendor program, contact the ASP at:

I. Short Description
Attach descriptive comments up to 65 characters to your
letters, spreadsheets, etc. and see them in the DIR display. These
comments stay with the files when you copy, move or rename them.
II. Medium Length Description
XDIR replaces the DOS DIR command. With XDIR you can attach a
descriptive comment of up to 65 characters to each file. The
comment will appear in the directory display. Unlike other
programs, XDIR makes sure that comments will stay with your files
when you COPY, RENAME or MOVE them. Select spreadsheet,
wordprocessing, database, etc., documents from the XDIR list to
RUN. XDIR knows the right application to call. Many additional
features.
Bonus utilities for XDIR are sent to registered users.
III. Long Description
XDIR is a commented directory utility that replaces the DOS
DIR command. With XDIR you can attach a descriptive comment of up
to 65 characters to each file. The comment will appear in the
directory display. Unlike other programs, XDIR makes sure that
comments will stay with your files when you COPY, RENAME or MOVE
them. Version 3.0 can RUN programs from the directory list and
supports executable extensions. The run feature (e.g., XDIR /r
*.exe) permits the user to select one or more entries from the
directory list, and run them. The program prompts for program
parameters. Also, XDIR will run other programs on files selected
from the directory list. For example, XDIR /rlist *.doc would list
all of the .doc files, allow the user to select from them, and then
list each of the selected files. Finally, XDIR supports executable
extensions. With proper setup, it will recognize the appropriate
application to call for a given file extension.
A group of additional utilities is supplied to registered
users. These include XDZIP and XDUNZIP, which automate inclusion of
XDIR comments in PkWare ZIP files and restores them on unzipping.
XDCount and XDUpdate keep track of the number of times your files
have been accessed, as well as the date of last use. This inform-
ation is presented on the directory display.
